Artwork for Magic Kingdom 45th Anniversary Released

Can you believe the Magic Kingdom is almost 45?! I remember the 40th like it was yesterday and can't wait to see what Disney has in store for this October.

Today Disney Parks Blog gave a sneak peek at the artwork that will adorn merchandise celebrating the big event. You can expect to see the commemorative merchandise, including items like apparel and drinkware, appear this fall.

The main merchandise logo showcases each of the Magic Kingdom's lands. One version is a bit more masculine than the other, which definitely feels "girly" thanks to its use of pastels.

Cody Reynolds, Creative Manager with Disney Design Group, says the artwork celebrates Magic Kingdom's history with a vintage feel.

"The attraction logos became a big focus for us as they each have such unique and iconic designs," Reynolds says. "We included opening-year attractions like ‘it’s a small world’ and other more recent additions such as Seven Dwarfs Mine Train."

LEGO Disney Minifigures Coming

This May, LEGO will debut a collection of Minifigures modeled after Disney characters like Daisy Duck, Buzz Lightyear, Cheshire Cat -- and of course Mickey Mouse himself.

LEGO Disney Minifigures
One of my 5-year-old's favorite things in the world is opening Minifigure "blind bags" and he loves The LEGO® Store at Disney Springs, so I have a feeling these will be a hit with him (ok, and with me, too).

Eighteen Minifigures will be available at The LEGO® Store and World of Disney at Disney Springs, as well as other locations, for $3.99 each.

Twenty Eight & Main Menswear Coming To Disney Parks and Disney Store

Yesterday the Disney Parks Blog featured a post about a new menswear line coming this fall, and my first thought was "Finally!"

You see, I'd love for my husband to sport a Mickey Mouse shirt while we're touring Walt Disney World ... but I have a better chance of sleeping in the Cinderella Castle Suite at the Magic Kingdom.

However, I can totally see him getting on board with the new Twenty Eight & Main T-shirts, which feature obscure Disney references like The Florida Project and the long-lost Adventurers Club on vintage washes.

In addition to shirts, the collection will include hats, drinkware and phone cases. There are even signs on display at The Sign Shop kiosk in the Marketplace Co-op at Downtown Disney.

Twenty Eight & Main items will be available at select locations at Disney World and Disneyland this fall, and  DisneyStore.com should start carrying shirts this summer.

Disney Minnie Mouse Collection by LC Lauren Conrad Now Available at Kohl's

I've been looking for comfy shirts that say "Disney" but aren't cutesy, and I think I've found them.

This week fashion designer Lauren Conrad released her Minnie Mouse collection at Kohl's, and it's full of Minnie Mouse-inspired pieces that, for the most part, aren't over the top.

My favorites are the Graphic Tee and the Print Crinkled Blouse. I also think the Open-Back Print Dress is adorable, but I could never pull it off.

Zawadi Marketplace at Animal Kingdom Lodge

Our visit to Zawadi Marketplace was a few months ago, but it remains one of my favorite resort gift shops on Walt Disney World property. There are the "high-end" items you only see at deluxe resorts (think Tommy Bahama and H2O), there's resort-specific merchandise (much of it in animal prints) and there are drums for the little ones. (There are also lots of breakables in Zawadi, so don't think you can use the drums as babysitters. ;)

Zawadi is just off the lobby of Animal Kingdom Lodge (it's to the right as you walk in). A drum “tree” beckons you inside, where bright colors and interesting textures welcome you to explore.

Nearby there are standing drums just the right size for a toddler (Disney Son had a drum-off with another little boy about his age when we were there).

There's the usual assortment of overpriced grocery items -- perishables as well as non-perishables -- and some of the standard merchandise available in all Disney Parks. But since the Lodge is a deluxe resort, there's a solid selection of AKL merchandise, including T-shirts, hoodies and travel coffee mugs.

The most interesting souvenirs and gifts, however, are the African artifacts found throughout the shop: the aforementioned drums, plus masks, textiles and -- my personal favorite -- handcarved animal figurines.

I'm kicking myself now for not buying a giraffe when I had the chance. To me, the best Disney World souvenirs are those that don't scream "Mickey" but are more low-key. One of these guys would've been perfect.
